Learning All The Time

First I will crow and then I will complain.

My crowing comes on the heel of the successful purchase and set up of a wireless router.  Now for those of you who are tech savvy, to this you will say well la-de- freaking daaaa – what’s the big whoop and what took you so long? To you I say pish – allow me my moment of glory.  For those of you who, like me, are somewhat tech savvy but still struggle to understand the difference between bits and bytes (other than as a snack food), you may join me in a jubilant TADAAAAA as I proclaim my greatness.  To you I say, thank you my friends for your continued support and adulation.  And lastly, for those of you who are scratching your heads wondering what the heck a wireless router is and why is she so excited anyway ? You may marvel from afar at the fantastic woman whose words will dazzle and amaze you as she sends them to her blog, from the comfort of her chair, on another floor from the internet connection in the wall , courtesy of WIRELESS technology !!!  It’s good to be queen today.

My complaint ?  Well when I drafted this wonderous piece of blog that you currently read, my computer and my  blog decided not to talk to each other.  That is, I typed, the blog burped and things were not going swimmingly at all.  You might extrapalate from this admission that I was somewhat flummoxed and annoyed by the interruption of my giddy introduction to the wireless ways of the world.  You would be correct.  You would be more correct to surmise that I was completely pissed but that’s not a very nice word so we’ll stick with annoyed.  Accurate is not always in the best interest of writing anyway…  Needless to say, I solved the problem in a most educated and sophicated manner.  I shut the damn computer off and walked away in a huff.  It wasn’t pretty.  I wasn’t proud of it.  But there you have it.  Huff I did.

After huffing it out for a few hours, I came back to my spanky new laptop, which is now being used to its fullest potential rather than as a very expensive word processor, and started it up.  At some point in my wireless journey, a message popped up advising me that it might be in my best interest to update my version of Explorer.  Hmmmm…. well, ok.  Can’t hurt.  And in this momentary flash of brilliance I also managed to solve my blog problem.  For though you can’t see it, I am once again ensconced in my comfy chair with feet propped every so comfortably on my somewhat decrepit but functional footstool typing gleefully about the adventure that you have just read.  Ain’t that a kick in the pants with an icy boot ?

Part of the point of this split personality post is that I learned something.  I learned that I’m probably a little more tech savvy than I give myself credit for (or at least smart enough to buy an idiot proof router).  I learned that there is more than one way to solve a problem and sometimes, contrary to my personality, it doesn’t have to be the most complicated solution.  I learned that I REALLY enjoy the wireless option and am very glad that my husband finally relented.  A little steamrolling never hurt a relationship.  And finally I learned that technology can be a good thing even when it gets me a bit huffy, even when it gets me a bit pissed, and most especially when it helps me to write.  Long live the Queen. 🙂
