When It Comes

The cool breeze
Floats through the window
Missed and welcome after
The heat of the week.

The heat is not forgotten
As the small sparrow
Plays in the dust bath
Of clay that lost all to the heat.

Slowly the rain falls
Slightly above a misting
Slightly below the drenching
That is so badly needed.

But through the window
I can hear the rain fall
Gently, softly, refreshing despite
Its meager presence.

The sparrow will have
A small shower
With its bath today.
